Advance Certificate in Restaurant and Bar

The Advanced Certificate in Restaurant and Bar is a qualification aimed at providing students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to work in Food and Beverage areas.  The programme is comprised of theoretical and practical components.

The programme is offered on a full-time basis over 2 years spread across 4 semesters.  


·         Hospitality English

·         Hospitality French

·         Hospitality Maths

·         Foreign Language

·         Information & Communication Technology (ICT)

·         Pre-service Procedures for Service Personnel

·         Food Theory and Product Knowledge

·         Bar Operations and Beverage Knowledge

·         Order Taking and Billing Procedures

·         Hospitality Industry

·         Health, Safety and Security

·         Service Delivery

·         Cultural Awareness

·         Food Science and Nutrition

·         Practical

Industry Placement is an integral component of the Restaurant and Bar programme and students’ performance will be assessed. Students will be sent on work attachment to various hospitality establishments. Students are required to complete a total of 20 weeks of Industry Placement to be eligible for graduation on the programme.

S5 School Leavers with the following minimum IGCSE grades or equivalent:

·         Minimum ‘D’ in English as a Second language or any one PASS in English as a First language

·         MinimumDELF A2 with marks of 60% or DELF B1 with marks of 50% or IGCSE equivalent

·         Maths IGCSE desirable.


Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded an Advanced Certificate in Restaurant and Bar.

In order to progress to the second year of the Restaurant and Bar programme, students are required to meet the following criteria:

·         successfully complete all courses of Year 1 with a minimum of ‘Pass’ (55%)

·         complete all industry placement requirements for Year 1

·         demonstrate acceptable standards of professional conduct and behaviour throughout the year, which means compliance to STA’s regulations and code of conduct
