Seychelles Tourism & Hospitality Management Students end first practical with crowning success

Degree course students in Tourism and Hospitality Management ended their first three weeks intensive practical training at Seychelles Tourism Academy with flying colours after successfully mastering the acquired knowledge in Food Production, Restaurant and Bar Service.

In an attempt to accord the twenty two new students with hands on experience across all aspects of Food Beverage and Kitchen, the Seychelles Tourism Academy Mess Hall was this week converted into a restaurant d’application and kitchen to acquaint students with their new working environment and conditions.

Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St.Ange was the student guest of honour for a fine dining evening together with Michel Nalletamby Principal Secretary of Natural Resources and Industry, Vice pro Chancellor of University of Seychelles (Unisey), Lucy Athanasius, the institution’s Registrar Michel Denousse, Raymonde Onezime, the Minister’s Special Advisor and friends and families of the students. Served with delicacies, the seasonal and classic menu proposed by the students comprises of a cold starter of soup, a choice of two main course and again a choice of homemade dessert. The twenty two students were divided into a team of two: a group was serving guests in the restaurant and the other was in the kitchen preparing the menu.

The General Manager for Tourism Development at the Academy Peter Moncherry said that “this exercise is to give the students a first-hand contact with the clients and to boost their self confidence before proceeding to their three and a half months internship in tourism establishments on Mahe and Praslin”.

The students will be put to test on a second consecutive day before they leave the Academy on Friday for their internship.

They will then return to the Academy on the 1st of April 2013 to start their degree course under the supervision of the Irish Shannon College of Hotel Management.
