New accord opens doors for career in aviation

A new agreement signed on Friday is set to open doors for students wishing to develop a career in aviation through the delivery of training programmes at the Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA) by senior trainers from Air Seychelles and Etihad Airways.

This will be supported by placements and internships within either airline for specific on the job training.

Candidates who successfully complete the programmes will be considered for full-time positions.
The programmes will focus on the many service-oriented positions within the airline industry such as cabin crew, customer affairs and ground services.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by Air Seychelles’ chief executive Cramer Ball, STA’s principal Flavien Joubert and chairperson Philippe Guitton, and general manager for human resources at the airline Peter Carrie-Wilson.

The ceremony took place at the academy in the presence of the chief executive of the National Human Resources Development Council Margaret Pillay, vice-chancellor of the University of Seychelles Marina Confait, representatives from the Ministry of Education and staff of the academy and Air Seychelles.

Addressing those present, Mr Ball said the signing creates a pathway for further development of young Seychellois with a passion for customer service and a desire to work in the aviation industry.

He said that this partnership with the academy will greatly assist the airline in its drive to develop a cadre of Seychellois with the skills to meet Air Seychelles’ rapidly growing needs.

“As the national airline of Seychelles, we are delighted to provide further opportunities for STA students to engage with us during the formative stages of their careers and for us to support their development,” he said.

Mr Joubert said the academy is thrilled to sign the accord with the airline, as it is an endorsement of the idea that STA can work together with tourism partners for the common goal of the country.

He thanked the partners for their contribution and later presented Mr Ball with a token from the academy.
